Coaguchek Information
The CoaguChek system offers patients on oral anticoagulant treatment a simple, fast, and convenient way of directly monitoring their PT INR results. It only requires a virtually
pain-free fingerprick, a drop of capillary blood, and one minute to get the INR result which will help the physician to monitor the success of the therapy. INR monitoring was never so easy!
Point of Care Anticoagulation Management Solutions-Since 1994, Roche Diagnostics has helped healthcare professionals provide quality care to their patients with a prothrombin time (PT/INR) meter they trust. Today, more point-of-care PT/INR tests
are performed with a CoaguChek system than with all other devices combined. Studies have shown that point-of-care PT/INR testing with CoaguCheck systems may enhance the quality of care by allowing
faster dosage adjustments and closer monitoring of patients on Coumadin (warfarin sodium) therapy. Roche offers a variety of solutions for fast, accurate PT/INR testing at the point of care, including
options for Patient Self-Testing.
The International Normalized Ratio (INR)is used to monitor the effectiveness of blood thinning drugs such as warfarin (Coumadin). These anti-coagulant drugs help inhibit the
formation of blood clots. They are prescribed on a long-term basis to patients who have experienced recurrent inappropriate blood clotting. This includes those who have had
heart attacks, strokes, and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Anti-coagulant therapy may also be given as a preventative measure in patients who have artificial heart valves and
on a short-term basis to patients who have had surgeries, such as knee replacements. The anti-coagulant drugs must be carefully monitored to maintain a balance between
preventing clots and causing excessive bleeding.
